Description

This 2-day course seeks to give students the information they need to go forward with confidence and with a greater understanding of how the different applications of glazes, underglaze and slips can work together. The first part of the course gives an introduction to how glazes were discovered, what a glaze is with examples of glaze recipes. The make up of clay and glaze will be explored. Firing temperatures, what that means and how different glazes work with the clays you may wish to use. The practical part of the first morning will see the students making tiles and experimenting with slip application including marbling and slip trailing. In the second part of the morning students will make test tiles in different clays ready for some glaze experiments on the second day.
